The demand for electric and hybrid vehicles continues to be shaped by changing regulatory regimes worldwide. The sale of new petrol and diesel cars will be banned in most countries from 2030 onwards, bringing significant changes to the aftermarket as well. Autodata’s online workshop application is used by more than 85,000 workshops worldwide, providing valuable insights into service trends. Between 2019 and 2021, the use of the electrical diagram module increased by 46%, while the use of diagnostic trouble code lookup increased by 33%. <\/strong><\/div>\n

In 2021, the most frequently serviced electric vehicle worldwide was the Nissan Leaf<\/strong> (2010-2018), followed by the Renault ZOE<\/strong>, Tesla Model S<\/strong>, and Tesla Model 3<\/strong>. Other brands represented in the top ten include BMW, Volkswagen, and Kia.

As first and second-generation electric vehicles continue to age and require road tests, we will see that service technicians will increasingly need to be electricians and even computer technicians, as they diagnose problems with digital systems and embedded software in vehicles of entirely different technological design.
