Subaru XV, 2013

Impaired engine performance

Problem description

Impaired engine performance
A 2013 Subaru XV 1.6 is experiencing issues such as poor engine performance, lack of power, and engine oil leaks at the front of the engine. The mechanic performed some basic inspections of the air and fuel systems and checked for any stored fault codes, but none were found.

Solution

1. The malfunctions are caused by oil leaking into the camshaft position actuator when oil enters the cable plug. This defect affects several Subaru models with engine codes FB16 / FB20 / FB20 DIT / FB25 / FB25A.

2. Check the actuator plug. If you find traces of oil, clean it or replace it if necessary. Also, check the first digits of the actuator (CMP) production number (see picture). If the first five digits are lower than 17158, replace the actuator with a modified one. Verify the correction by test driving. Verify the correction by test driving.
