Vehicle Homologations

Vehicle homologation is the manufacturer’s responsibility to ensure that the produced vehicle meets the standards of target countries. In simple terms, it means that the manufacturer can start selling, as the produced vehicle has passed all prescribed tests and met all prescribed standards.

  • LOCAL HOMOLOGATION DOCUMENTATION

  • ISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATES OF CONFORMITY

The EU directive allows manufacturers to register various types of vehicles, such as:

passenger vehicles
commercial vehicles
motorcycles
trailers
agricultural vehicles

Additionally, the EU directive allows manufacturers to obtain vehicle homologation approvals in one member state and sell the same vehicle in other member states, without the need for further testing.

IN THE APPROVAL PROCESS, VEHICLES ARE TYPICALLY TESTED FOR 4 MAIN GROUPS OF STANDARDS:

  • Passive safety, including crash tests, child safety systems, and seatbelt testing
  • Active safety, such as braking systems and steering
  • Components & Systems, including tests for glass, wipers, lighting, mirrors, tires, fuel tank, rearview mirrors, etc.
  • Environmental regulations, including tests for fuel consumption, EMC, noise and air emissions
