1. This is a defect also reported by other Hyundai i30 owners. It affects models from the start of production until May 31, 2010. The noise occurs at the contact point between the rear shock absorber dust cover and the upper mounting rod of the rear suspension.
2. Pull down the shock absorber dust cover and thoroughly clean the top of the dust cover rod and the upper mounting sleeve (Figure 1). Apply appropriate sealant to the upper outer edge of the shock absorber dust cover and reinstall it (Figure 2). Repeat the procedure on the other side. Verify the repair with a test drive.
