Audi A4 2.0 TDI, 2010

Unusual noise at high speeds

Problem description

Unusual noise at high speeds
The customer reports noise during driving that comes from the underside of the vehicle. The noise or whistling was audible during the road test, but the technician could not find the cause in the workshop. What could be the cause?

Solution

1. The noise occurs in A4 models (7K2/8K5) up to model year 06/2014 and is caused by vibrations of the heat shield of the center exhaust silencer.

2. Remove the exhaust silencer heat shield and thoroughly clean the area shown in the image. Apply a 5mm thick layer of bonding material to the marked 40x40mm surface, which is available as an original replacement part. Reinstall the heat shield and secure it. Confirm the repair with a road test.
