Hyundai Veloster, 2012

Parking Brake Locking

Problem Description

Parking Brake Locking
The customer reports a parking brake locking issue on a 2012 Hyundai Veloster. The problem occurs when the customer releases the parking brake, but it does not disengage. The technician has cleaned the brake, but the issue persists.

Solution

1. The issue described by the technician is a known problem affecting Veloster models with automatic transmission up to February 28, 2012. The cause is corrosion due to water intrusion into the parking brake caliper lever.

2. Remove the parking brake cables from both levers and check measurement “A” on both rear calipers (Figure 1). If the distance on both sides is less than 3 mm, the lever kit needs to be replaced. However, if the total measurement is greater than 3 mm, the rear brake caliper needs to be replaced.
