Squeaking sound from the rear suspension
We have a VW Amarok, for which the customer states that it emits a squeaking sound when driving on uneven surfaces. We cannot reproduce the problem in the workshop, but we heard the sound coming from the rear of the vehicle during a test drive. Our first thought was that it was the tailgate, as it has an aftermarket lift assist fitted, but it is not possible to identify the location that could be causing such a sound. Do you have any other ideas?
1. Yes, we have encountered this problem before, and the cause is likely the rear suspension leaf spring rubbing against the rebound clip. This affects Amarok 2016-21 models and is due to incorrect leaf spring alignment.
2. To resolve this, it is necessary to restore the rear leaf spring attachment to the U-bolts on the axle and the U-bolt nuts, as follows:
Do not tighten the U-bolt nuts
Centralize the leaf spring in the rebound clip. Ensure adequate clearance between the leaf spring and the rebound clip on both sides (picture)
Tighten the U-bolt nuts to the correct torque – 120 Nm + 270°
Repeat the process on the opposite side if necessary
Apply a small amount of sealant to the thread of the fixing screws, as shown in:

Do not use an impact wrench to tighten the bolts. Make sure the bolts are tightened to the correct torque. Install the gearbox.
