Many employers allow their employees to use company vehicles during their free/private time. In the case of vehicles that have built-in telematics or tracking systems, the question of the right to privacy arises.
Geotab with Personal Mode
This is a feature that can be set up through the MyGeotab app and allows drivers to temporarily pause tracking.
By enabling this feature, MyGeotab will not display GPS-based locations, such as position and trip data. However, data such as engine and acceleration data will still be displayed, as this is useful for fleet optimization.
Some examples of use:
- Tracking only during work hours: For employees who are allowed to use a work vehicle during personal time, the driver telematics device can automatically set to personal mode for non-work hours.
- Tracking only in specific areas: On job sites, construction fleets can track the GPS locations of workers to ensure speed limits are followed.
HOW DO WE ENABLE PERSONAL MODE IN GEOTAB?
Activation is possible in 3 ways:
- In the Exception Rules section – setting conditions
- With free add-ins like the Personal Mode Add-In
- With Drive app add-ons like the Personal Mode Add-In
