Non-functioning remote central locking
On a Kia Sportage vehicle, year 2010, the remote locking system has stopped working. The service technician has checked the locks in the workshop, and they are all functioning.
1. Similar issues with the Sportage model occurred in vehicles manufactured in Slovakia until August 2011. The problem lies in the ignition warning switch sticking. The malfunction occurs due to insufficient lubrication of the switch. Disconnect the battery, remove the plastic cover under the steering wheel, and pull out the lock’s electrical connector. Insert the key and turn it to the ignition position (figure 1). While pressing the locking pin, simultaneously pull out the ignition switch ring as shown (figures 2 and 3).
2. Apply a thin layer of grease (figure 4) to the ring and warning switch, which can be purchased from all Kia spare parts dealers. This should resolve the issue.
