Engine stops when selecting reverse gear
An issue arises when diagnosing certain faults on a 2011 Peugeot 5008 with an automatic transmission. Occasionally, a starter motor error occurs, and the engine stops when selecting reverse gear. Several error codes related to transmission solenoids (P0972, P0975) are displayed. Poor grounding on the transmission housing was identified, but this did not affect the errors.
1. Part of the fault was discovered to be poor grounding of the transmission housing, and another reason is poor grounding on the body due to corrosion.
2. Locate and check the condition of the ground connection near the battery (figure 1). Remove the battery and the mounting plate. Clean the ground contacts and replace the bolt at the body ground point. Tighten the bolt to the correct torque of 10 Nm. Clean/tighten the battery ground on the transmission housing. Tighten the bolt to the correct torque of 20 Nm. Reinstall the bracket and battery. Clear the error codes.
