How to eliminate steering wheel squeaking?
The customer reported noise in the front of a Škoda Fabia, year 2010, which occurs when turning the steering wheel and driving on poor road surfaces. In the workshop, they were unable to replicate the noise that was detected during the test drive. All components were checked, but the issue persists.
1. The described issue affects Fabia II, Rapid Space Spaceback, and Roomster models up to 11/1/2013. The cause is due to corrosion of the joints.
2. To resolve the issue, remove the rubber protection of the steering rack (Figure 1) and check the color of the grease in the joints (Figure 2). If it has a rusty color, remove the steering rack and attach new arms (Figure 3). Tighten the rods with a torque of 80 Nm and perform front wheel alignment before road testing.
