Steering wheel sticking

Problem description

Steering wheel sticking The customer reports difficulties or sticking of the steering wheel when turning or parking a 2013 Toyota Auris. Some time ago, the carpet under the steering wheel was wet after heavy rain, but we are unsure whether the problems are related.

Solution

1. The fault is due to a cracked or damaged steering rod sealing ring.

2. Remove the steering rod seal. Install the guard on the new seal (Figure 1). Attach it with a clamp that provides a gap width of 0.5 to 1.5mm (Figure 2). Install the new seal together with the guard on the steering rod. This solution should fix the problem.
