In last year we read about contract termination between Mobileye and Tesla and that they stayed in a very bad relationship. Mobileye was an important supplier and a significant development partner of Tesla in the area of self-driving development technologies. However, Mobileye started the year 2017 with a very promising start. First, in beginning of this month, they signed a contract with Volkswagen, who will use Mobileye's technologies initially to acquire all the data about road and driving characteristic. All gathered data will be collected in the navigation system to be later used for self-driving vehicles development. Just one week after, Mobileye signed a new contract, this time with BMW. The cooperation with BMW will be implemented in a similar way as with VW. In the first phase of the project they will collect first all road data and in second phase they will use them for further development of self-driving vehicles. BMW also presented publicly a plan in which they target to produce 40 self-driving vehicles already in second half of this year. All collected data about driving, roads and other factors will be sent to German digital mapping company HERE, which is a well-known provider of cloud mapping services for self-driving vehicles. Their service is regularly updated and provides latest road data.
Mobileye is targeting to have even more partnerships with other brands in this year, as this will enable them to collect accurate data from different sources. With this strategy, they will collect more precise information about roads and drive specifics, which will be used for further development of self-driving vehicles.
